Mobile Health for Improved  Maternal and Child Health Services Utilization

The project will enable pregnant women and their children to access and utilize maternal health services including Ante Natal Care, delivery ,Post Natal Care and immunisation. It assists the HEWs to follow up pregnant women to utilize maternal health services. It facilitates and strengths the referral system between the HEWs and health facilities.

Challenges to address

Despite the decreasing trend, maternal and infant death rates are still high in many parts of the developing world including Ethiopia. A major contributory factor for this is the low level of skilled attendance at delivery which in turn is influenced by the low antenatal care service utilization.

Activities

Through the proposed project, Health Extension Workers will identify pregnant mothers in the community and submit their basic information through their mobile to mobile platform. The system will subsequently send messages to the HEWs about the appointment dates of the pregnant mother, expected date of delivery, postnatal appointments and in their community.
