Integrating ICT-based support in research and innovations

Established in 1922, Makerere University in Uganda is one of Africa’s oldest and most prestigious Universities. Makerere in collaboration with DSV/SPIDER, will continue to expand and improve ICT services and systems as critical and top priority enablers in achieving the University’s vision: To be the leading institution for academic excellence and innovations in Africa as well as its mission: To provide innovative teaching, learning, research and services responsive to National and Global needs.

Programme

The Sub-programme has 3 priority areas:

  1. Under Teaching, Learning and Supporting Environment: Capacity Building Activities and Technical Support to DICTS (Areas of Focus: network infrastructure, systems integration, service implementations, online pedagogy and platforms to increase digital literacy among staff and students, information security and Graduate Training for 30 Students at Master Level) (Areas of focus: communication networks, cybersecurity, supercomputing, data engineering, data science, ICT project management and governance, big data analytics, data mining, artificial intelligence).

     

  2. Under Research and Innovations: Enhancement of campus-wide wireless infrastructure, Implementation of the Electronic Documents and Records Management System (EDRMS) to digitize all University Data; Research Data Services and Systems (MAK Internal cloud service/Computational Unit) for researchers; and Inclusiveness and Gender Mainstreaming.

     

  3. Enhance ICT inclusiveness and Gender Mainstreaming as well as knowledge transfer and partnerships.
